Sony's PlayStation 4: The key features that stand out

Sony has shown off the controller for its new generation PlayStation 4 console at an event in New York. The console itself was not displayed by the company, although it should be out in the time for the holiday season of of 2013.

So what are the key features of Sony’s newest offering for gamers across the world?

Specs: Sony’s PlayStation 4 comes with a powerful eight-core X86 AMD “Jaguar” CPU and a 1.84 Teraflop AMD Radeon graphics engine. That is some pretty powerful processing for a device that is expected to run games with hardcore graphics. The device also has a 8GB of fast GDDR5 memory. It will come with hard drive for storage and not an SSD. However the capacity has not been specified.

Online streaming of games: The PS4 will use Gaikai game streaming technology which will allow users to directly download games on their console. Users can play the game online as it downloads. The console will also have the ability to download games in the background, even while it is powered off. Users will also be able to upload videos online while playing games and thus share their gameplay on social networks in near real-time.
